12-String Stratocaster

This is one of those pet projects that has been rolling around in my head for as long as I can remember. It all started when my good buddy Blaine Hart turned me on to an Ibanez copy of the venerable Gibson 6/12 SG. White with gold hardware, it was a killer looking guitar and sounded terrific (if you're as old as me you'll recall that Ibanez got sued for doing such a good job of copying the Gibsons). I wanted to look like Alex Lifeson and Mahavishnu John McLaughlin. The only problem was it had bolt on necks and the 12-string half was constantly out of tune. This guitar features a set neck with a MONSTROUS neck tenon that becomes a part of the body and top. I made it out of laminates of purpleheart and white maple just because the wood looks so cool. An angled peghead was employed to keep proper string tension behind the nut and maintain a straight string path. This puppy will stay in tune for weeks and resonates like a piano.
